LS Chevy '72 C-10

 Well, after a few months on and off messing around with the '72 C-10 I got it running this week!

For those that have been following the 5.3L LS install in the mag, I'm wrapping up the part 4 finale for our September issue. Things went well and I  know the stock '01 junkyard engine makes at least 260hp/280lb/ft to the rear tires and we've only done one light dyno pull. I'll post video as soon as we figure out how!

1. What engine did you have in your truck before this and does this engine get better gas maliage then the old one. I have a 1989 chevy with a 350 in it. I was thinking of putting a 5.3 in my truck, I was wondering if the 5.3 is lighter and if it got better mpg.

2. grant i had read your article about the engine mounts you used for your engine swap. i have a 1971 chevy pickup that i have owned for the last ten years the last 18mos i have installed a new engine and was concerned about how close the distributor was to the firewall due to someone in the trucks previous life did not change the 6 cylinder mounts out.so i ordered the correct mounts from ccp what a difference i can even get to the dipstick .as you stated they even look good.thanks for sharing this.i enjoy the magazine as i have used it many times for restoration of my truck keep up the good work

3. I have owned a GMC with a 305, a suburban with a 350, another with a 6.5L diesel and finally a new 2001 chevy with a LS1 5.3 Liter. Less than 2 mpg improvement I was very disappointed in all aspects of performance, power and reliability of the 5.3L (piston slapping, spark knocking, injector rail leaking)

My advice is stick with the faithful 350!
